The History of Rolex at
Tapper's Jewelry

For over 45 years, Tapper's Jewelry has been Metro-Detroit's leading family owned and operated luxury retail jeweler. When Howard Tapper opened the doors in 1977, he was driven by a passion for service to his guests. The passion for service and excellence that Tapper's was founded on, is what allows Tapper's Jewelry to hold the title of Official Rolex Jeweler. Tapper's is proud to offer our guests a large selection of Rolex timepieces. Visit Tapper's to begin your Rolex timepiece journey.

1977 — The Beginning of Our Story

Howard Tapper, found the location for what would be his first store in Southfield, Michigan. He sketched the design on the back of a napkin and withdrew his life savings. But it wasn’t enough. He turned to friends and family, but he was still short. He had one more prized possession that he could sell: the Cutlass. With his wife Susan and mother-in-law Trudy by his side, Howard opened Tapper’s Jewelry on May 7, 1977. A few months later his brother and sister, Steven and Barbara Tapper, joined him, and from there the rest is history.
